Cookie died today. We took him in, thinking he was having an allergic reaction to some anti flea stuff we put on him. Turns out one of his lungs was filled with fluids, and the other one was following. We took him because he was having issues breathing.
He's not suffering anymore, and if we didn't put him down, all he would've done is suffer. The vet told us it was a definite thing.
We did the right thing. But it sucks.
4:00 Update:
Turns out Cookie had a bad heart when he was born. He died of congenital heart failure. They didn't even need to put him down (I wanted to stay, but Tom ran me out of the place). He died about fifteen minutes after we left on his own.
At least I was with him today. I held him, gave him a belly scratch It's almost a relief knowing the reason - the dogs apparently had fleas, and I was starting to think the bugs were infested with a virus, and that the other two were going down next. ><
It's also kinda nice to know it was something that was happening within a matter of time. I mean, yes, it's bad that he had to die, but at least I know we did the right thing (not that we did anything, but still) and that there wasn't anything we could have done to stop it. At least he had six years full of happiness and love.
