Tuesday, brought them down to Bloomington so I could run errands. Standard tour of town and campus, visit to Upland went over well. Wednesday was general touristing and shopping in Indy, plus dinner party in the evening. Thursday, packed them off back home. Really great to spend some time with the people who were almost second parents when I was small, especially as the last time we saw them was for a couple of days in November 2001, just after my granddad's funeral. I had always been slightly intimidated by George as a child, and now after sharing numerous beers, I can't for the life of me see why.
Birthday was fairly low-key, although not as low-key as I initially intended (i.e. nothing). Dinner at the Spoon while critical mass of folk musicians accumulated in the corner (starting with one guy playing flute and concertina when we arrived, adding accordion, penny whistle, guitar, and fiddle by the end. Was wary of spontaneous contra or morris dance breaking out, but appears we got lucky). Back home for two types of cake.
Presents included a BRIO train set. This doesn't mean anyone's off the hook when it comes up during my mid-life crisis. Also, genuine slingshot, which was a rather dangerous thing to give me.
Dropped the car off this morning to have coolant leak around brand new water pump looked at. If they can't get it right this time, I may have already found a use for the slingshot.
