Almost Alone
Loneliness is a frequent topic in my therapy sessions. I have very few real friends. I live over 600 miles from my siblings. Both kids live elsewhere for the most part. I don't have a real job so I don't leave the house. My wife works pretty much all of the time. My sole companion is my dog. She has been sick and we took her to the emergency vet last night. Thankfully, she has medication now and they don't think it is anything too serious. I do know, though, that her being 13 the time is coming sooner than I want to consider.
I'm making an effort at change. I signed up to volunteer at a therapeutic riding place. I have a first meeting with a local book club via zoom tomorrow night. Here's hoping I might make a friend at some point.
