[Fiction] Second in Command

No matter what hierarchy they happened to find themselves under, Vassago had always guaranteed herself some kind of power. Under Lucifer, she had been third in line to the throne. When the system was rearranged and the Council formed, she guaranteed herself a spot among them, dragging Stolas along with her, and making sure that all who had followed her before were just as sure to follow her now, wanting to hold on to their power, prestige, and most importantly, her favor.

Vassago was not a demon to be trifled with. She was a seer, who saw and knew most things before her opponent could even be bothered to prepare for a fight. She always spoke the truth, whether deadly or dangerous, and she made her way to crush everything possible in her path, with little regard for who she was stepping on, with whom she was interfering. Ego and raw power thrown together with the resentment of someone who had been cast out of her family for choosing to speak the truth to the one who didn’t want to hear it and one witch had decided to cross her. One silly, foolish witch had decided to take away the one thing that she valued and needed the most-one of her followers.

In the early years of Avnas’ disappearance, Vassago thought that she had just been lost in the initial scatter that came with that era in the demonic hierarchy as the Council took more of a backseat approach to things. It was a complicated and uneasy process, trying to track down all of their old warriors and call them to arms again. Sam Winchester was almost ready, and soon he would be ready to lead the army to the victory they were planning. She was ready as well, having been planning this for centuries, trying to come up with the exact situation needed in order to make this come out the way they wanted it too, and so far she was coming up blank on the biggest piece of that puzzle for her. She was missing her second in command, and that was more dangerous than anything she could think of. She was starting to think that Caim had the right idea in boxing all of his best warriors. Alloces was always right at his fingertips, whenever he was looking for him. Vassago was missing a very key piece of her infrastructure, and she couldn't move forward until that girl was located.

It wasn't until later that she learned of Avnas' true fate. About the vengeful witch who cursed the demon into submission in retribution for igniting the lust in someone that she loved. Someone who Vassago had brought into power and had gone underground not long after, hiding from everyone's radar and disappearing from view. That was not a way to appease the woman who often times held destruction in the palm of her hand, whether it happened or not hanging in a delicate balance in the palm of her hand. It was an unwise move, a downright stupid move, and it had taken her over a century to find the woman, but now she had her. Had her snieveling in her grasp, and mercy was not a grace that this woman was going to be allotted. Not for the crime she had committed.

"Tell me where my demon is," Vassago glared as she threw the witch against the wall, feeling the rotting wood of the old house crack under the force of it.

"Please, I swear to you, I don't know who you're referring to." Devonna was pleading at this point, pain radiating throughout her body as she tried to fight back. She wasn't strong enough to stand up to the demon in front of her, but she was strong enough to try and stall until someone that was did, even though she wasn't sure if they would.

"Avnas," Vassago replied coolly. "That refresh your memory?"

Devonna's eyes widened. "Yes. Yes, I know where she is. Please, just let me go and I'll tell you."

"You think that I should just let you go?" Vassago was shocked, and that wasn't exactly something that came easily, especailly not someone with the gift of foresight that she had. "I do not suffer these kinds of betrayals lightly, Devonna. You in effect stabbed me in the back. You better have a damn good reason as to why I even should consider-"

"Because I cloaked her, and I'm the only one that can free her," Devonna gasped out. "I'm the only one who can break the spell, and you know it. You want your demon back, I have to be the one to do it."

Vassago considered this for a moment, tilting her head to the side slightly. "How effective is the curse? How often is Amy present in the consciousness?"

"Never," Devonna replied with a smirk. "She's bound to only come forward when her host is endangered. Otherwise, she's supposed to be unpresent in the conscious mind."

The blond demon dropped the redheaded witch to the ground, before turning on her heel and heading to the door. "Fine. I won't kill you-for now. However, after I have my demon back, all bets are off. I can promise you that." She paused in the doorway, before glancing back over her shoulder. "Avans was always one for a little revenge," she teased, giving the woman a small smile. "Maybe she'll do my job for me and kill you herself."

As she continued to make her way out the door, she could smell the fear coming off the woman in waves, and she couldn't help but smile. This was going to be far, far easier than she had thought.
