Some paint takes a while, flipped that door over and the other side has about 5 layers and no milk paint. This side takes around 10 seconds each spot, sounds easy right? wrong, the paint is only flexible when hot then hardens fast as it cools. If its in one spot for 30-40 seconds then it gives you enough time to move it to another spot to heat while scraping the first spot. If its only 10 seconds that doesn't work, the other spot will start to smoke, so you have to turn it off in between areas and wait for it to heat back up. Makes the intricate stuff a bear trying to lift the paint off with a scraper and dental tool.
So I bought some Jasco paint remover, this crap is evil, it did eat through that last layer of paint stinking in some crevices, but it also ate my stripping gloves. Chemical burns hurt.
I do have some Smart Strip, I'm hoping to avoid it on the door because its some sort of water base and soaks into the wood and makes it soft so its easily damaged when scraping off paint, also I'm hoping to stain and seal this door not repaint it.
On a weird note, under all the paint the old ball hinges are copper. Never seen that before.
