And they didnt even get her name.

The snow crunched beneath her feet causing her foot to twist and slide on angles. It was irritating - the uneveness of the ground - and she couldn't even produce a pattern to calm her nerves. The sun was hidden behind the clouds and a dark wintery light caused her mind to slip into introspective mode. That happened often when she walked alone. Her limbs were becoming stiff. She was almost certain that the fluid that flowed throughout her veins had frozen leaving her stranded.

But she struggled through the Canadian land and arrived.

"What need you?" The Oracles, togged in nothing but what looked like white sheets held up by gold ties, perched on a large rock. Two males, glaring at her - expecting something of her?
"Yes, I've come to you for help." She offered a smile - which was evidently not enough.
"What gift do you offer in return for our wisdom?" One oracle stood and crossed his arms.
"Uhm..." She paused as she searched her pockets, "This." She handed him a silver necklace.
"This is so flimsy and mortal." The other oracle raised a brow, "But it will do."
"What need you to know?" The other oracle sighed.
"I have my heart - it's broken and doesn't function properly. It's in pieces and they won't...fit back together." Her eyes began to well as she fished out pieces from her back jean pockets - holding the bleeding pieces in her hands.
"Your mortal heart?" One looked at her incredulously.
"Share it." The other chimed in, "Share it and you will receive - pieces of others - fitting the pieces that exist."
"That's all?" Left baffled, she began to open her mouth to speak again -
"No more. We've answered you, lower being, so go. Share your mortal heart with others and heal you will." The oracles dismissed her and she went back home.

She offered a piece to a boy in her class. He kindly took it and walked away. She handed a piece to her mother - who dropped it down the kitchen sink. She gave some to her sister - who threw it out the window when she got mad at her. She gave it to her friend - who traded it with another friend. She gave and gave until she was left with nothing more.

Heartless, she collapsed on a snowy curb. She fought to restrain the tears - but once one fell, a flood soon followed. Her body convulsed and her toes began to numb.

Then a touch at her shoulder caused her to stand. "Wha-what?"
"Hi." A boy, so quiet so nervous, greeted her with a hopeful smile.
"I have no more left to give." She bit her bottom lip sadly and licked away the salty tear that found its way to the corner of her mouth.
"I'll give you half of mine." He paused, "I've seen you - break pieces off and share...and I've been saving mine..."
"A whole half a heart?" Her eyes widened in surprise.
"It's never been broken. Nor weathered, nor torn. I've saved it...for someone special." He handed it to her, "Be gentle with it."
"But I have nothing to give back." Her eyes began to well again.
"All I want is you." He kissed her then.

He kept her warm on their way home, as their half hearts beat as one.
