Merlin: The Gates of Avalon

That episode was hysterical.

The Merlin/Arthur banter was fantastic - Merlin is really learning to manipulate Arthur, and the insults were flying tonight.

Of course, how much of Arthur's side was enchantment and how much of himself? He said Merlin would be his friend for life, and then he said he was just a servant. What to do?

Merlin seems to like matchmaking Arthur, but then maybe he just likes mocking him. Merlin really can't lie - but he seems to show Uther only a smidgen more respect than he does Arthur! I think they keep around because he's like the court fool.

Morgana is going to turn evil - I sense it coming. Which is a shame, cause she's awesome. Also - I kinda pre-empted the Uther&Morgana closeness in Fealty 11, so I'm kinda pleased with myself.

Arthur is back to being a prat though, especially to Morgana. That was cruel and uncalled for, and I'm not sure how much of it we can put down to the enchantment. Bah.

When Merlin's trying to tell Arthur about Sophia, notice how he almost turns back. Arthur is actually conflicted - so, Merlin's voice is almost sufficient to break a powerful love enchantment. Says a lot about his feelings for Merlin, IMO.

And thank goodness Merlin didn't dither this time! "I have to. He needs me." Urgent and desperate and gone, despite his concussion. Good boy.

And then the drowning scene, which had me shouting at Merlin to HURRY UP! But he saved Arthur - and Arthur doesn't remember. I'd quite like him to remember in little flashes and thank Merlin properly.

The ending was funny too. Merlin telling Arthur that he'd knocked him out! Mental Defiency! More stocks!

All-in-all, very funny, and quite slashy - but Arthur, lose the prattishness, plzthx.

NEXT WEEK: Is that Mordred?! Oh my life, Arthur's going to save his executioner! And Morgana's in a lot of trouble.

I suppose, technically, Mordred could be Arthur's son - he looks about eight, and Arthur's twenty-five. However, it's unlikely, so there goes another piece of mythology sailing out the window.
