So, the computer that we ordered has turned up at uni.
I specced it up to be the best one we could get with the funds we had, getting everything just below the huge jump in price.
Unfortunately, then the guy who sorts out the orders for our department decided it cost too much and took away all the cool stuff. So no card reader, just a floppy drive, single instead of dual-layer dvd drive (it reads dual layer... because that's useful), 50GB less harddisc space (slower harddisc as well) slower processor, and knocked it down to the onboard graphics card - so no dual monitor out. He also replaced the sony tft monitor with a "CTX" brand one. At least it still has 2 GB RAM.
So, trying it out today and it SUCKS!
It should be pretty much the same as the other computers in the lab, but for some reason sounds like a tractor when it's idling. Must be something up with the fan.
The CTX monitor is nowhere near the quality of the Sony monitor, and not only that, they didn't bother checking it before it was sent and it has a green line of pixels going the length of it about 3 inches from the left side.
So yeah... that's a bit rubbish.
