Forgotten Time

I do not own anything in this except the cracked out bunny that gave me these wonderful ideas. BTVS and CSI:Miami do NOT belong to me nor do I make any money out of them. If they did I would be living in a mansion on Miami's lovely shores for part of the year, since I don't they definitely are owned by someone other than me. All reviews are welcome, any flames however will be doused with Halon and fed to the moat monster. If you do not like the story than CLOSE THE BLOODY PAGE!!!!!! Some mentions of child neglect and abuse in this chapter.

Chapter 2

The ride to the airport in LA was held mostly in silence, as both Xander and Horatio were preoccupied with their own thoughts. Finally Horatio looked over at Xander and asked, “What happened to cause you not to have a phone anymore? I tried the number Speed has for you and it was out of service.”

Xander looked at the redheaded man sitting in the driver’s seat and took a deep breath. “I didn’t know that it was out of service, the ‘rents aren’t the best at paying the bills but the phone is one they usually pay first, even above rent some months. I have some money, I’ll get one of those pre-paid phones and make sure that Timmy has the number too. I’ll probably wait ‘til we get to Miami for that ‘tho, no long distance or roaming charges then.”

“Won’t anyone from here try to get ahold of you? Your redheaded friend perhaps?” Horatio glanced over at Xander, a familiar and uneasy feeling starting in his gut at how the young man he was transporting seemed to think that he would talk more to Speed than to anyone that lived even remotely near him.

“Who, Willow? She might call me once or twice, but she’ll forget about calling me soon enough and none of my other friends would bother calling in the first place. I told everyone I was going on a road trip after grad and the only response I really got was “Good! You stay here and we’ll kick your butt for you!” My parents were even less polite about it. I think the phrase was, “You leave don’t expect to move back in when you come crawling back. No real love lost there.” Xander snorted and looked over at Horatio, "They used to be good back when I was little, but once I hit middle school, well everything changed. Dad lost his job and then climbed into a bottle. Mom lost my baby brother and crawled in with him, and I couldn't make them see sense. I've come to realize that they aren't going to come out on their own and I just don't have the strength to make them. I would like my parents back, but I think it's going to take a miracle to get them out of the bottle and everything else they have gotten into since then. The part that really hurts is that I needed them too, and they just abandoned me after she lost the baby. I mean he was going to be my baby brother, and I was really looking forward to meeting him once he was born." A tear that Xander didn't realize was there slipped down his cheek and Horatio had to fight the instinct telling him to wipe it away.

"I'm sorry to hear that, that would have been about 5 years ago, right?" Horatio watched out of the corner of his eye as Xander nodded and surreptitiously wiped the tear away. "That's when Tim started getting all those calls from you!" Horatio smiled at Xander and commented,"You have no idea how much that helped him, he was going through his own rough spot then and he told me it helped him so much to know he wasn't the only person with problems, that it was a family member he could help if only by telling you that he cared!"

Xander smiled as they finally pulled into the rental area of the airport, "At least we both have each other. My friend Jesse helped too, before he 'disappeared', but Willow is sensitive, I didn't want to talk to her about this, and lately shes been really influenced by a newer friend who's on a 'special girl' kick. Pisses me off but they keep trying to get me to not escort classmates home on late nights in a place that has had a 50 percent homicide and missing persons rate! Hell my school newspaper has an obituary and missing persons section with new names every week! Really pisses off that they seem to think I'm as useful as dryer lint, even 'tho I've been doing this since I was in 10th grade!"

"I can't really speak for them, although it seems like they perhaps aren't the best friends to have anymore. You said that Jesse disappeared, but it sounded like you think there was more to it than that. What happened?" Horatio looked over at Xander as they sat down in the terminal after getting the luggage that Xander had into the baggage area, he watched as Xander did something to the luggage that looked like a complicated hand gesture and whispered something.

Xander looked up and noticed how closely Horatio was watching him, "Just a charm to keep my luggage from traveling to Bangladesh or someplace other than where I am going, don't know if it works but I found it in a neat book in the library and decided it couldn't hurt." He smiled and continued, "As for Jessie, I would really rather wait until we aren't where everyone and their sister can hear us, it's more what I know happened than guesses. I know he's dead, but since no one in the Sunnydale PD would believe me, it's listed as a runaway." He shrugged, "Not much can be done about the most corrupt force in the world, I mean they aren't even open at night!"

H blinked in shock, "Interesting, we'll continue this once we get you to Tim. He needs the distraction, pain is not his friend."

"Really? It's like an old girlfriend that you just can't get rid of to me." Xander froze for a second as he realized what he had just blurted out then sighed, "Later, please. I need copious amounts of junk food to deal with that since I'm not old enough to drink yet!"
