I have always loved to do jigsaw puzzles. When I was a kid Santa would bring one for Christmas every year. After Christmas it would get started on the dining room table. It seemed that everyone spent some time at that table, staring at it, fitting in the pieces. And sometimes we would just walk by, glance at it, and immediately see the elusive piece that we had been looking intently for earlier.
Now I use a program called
BigJig to do puzzles on my computer. It's a great program. I bought it at least 7 or 8 years ago. I strongly recommend it. But it has one huge drawback. It won't admit when I'm clearly right and the program is clearly wrong.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has had this experience when working on a traditional jigsaw puzzle. You find the perfect piece and you know exactly where it goes. There's no doubt in your mind. Unfortunately, there was clearly some sort of glitch with the manufacturing process when your puzzle was made, so it doesn't seem to fit. And there's only one thing to do. You make it fit! It's not that hard. The cardboard is generally pretty flexible. If absolutely necessary, you can wet it to help it conform better. And conform it does. And I am right.
But this program won't let me do that. I have to keep on working and working until I find the piece that the program thinks is right. And I always eventually find that piece. But in my heart I know....I was right the first time.
