Six degrees with the poetry book...

Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
Rumoresque senum severiorum
Omnes unius aestimemus assis.
Soles occidere et redire possunt:
Nobis, cum semel occidit brevis lux,
Nox est perpetua una dormienda.

Da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
Dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
Deinde usque altera mille, deine centum,
Dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
Conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
Aut ne quis malus invidere possit,
Cum tanta sciat esse basiorum.

It's been about four and a half years since I first translated that little diddy from Catullus, and it's scary to think how little I knew then, and how much I thought I understood. Some people have long term relationships that last four years; I have long term relationships with what dead people say.

It's a good way to be, and if you feel sorry for me because of that last statement, you're too stupid to understand it.

I'm not poor because I take other people's lives so personally.

That's not angry, it's a statement of characteristic belief. And I was right - most conflict results from a confusion of personal preference with characteristic belief. A conturbation, you could say. Thanks to the boy for that thought. (It seems bad luck to mention names in this venue... If we've learned anything, it's not to enumerate our blessings.)

And had I but world enough and time, I'd fill you in on the truth for a while longer, but now I'm off to be a coy mistress.

And yes, I'm listening to Heart, the worst band ever. You love it.

Oh, and I broke the bold code. (Not there... previously.) Things are changing around here. Don't expect it to happen often, but sometimes it's not feasible to have faith in never or forever.
