POTC 4:
On Stranger Tides: Extravagantly ridiculous! It was fun, and at that one point with the leg-flask and then the palm-tree-climbing escape I completely cracked up. But it is a crying shame to have Penelope Cruz and give her so little to do.
Oh boy how married are Gibbs and Jack.
They are almost as married as Barbossa and Jack!
OH BOY HOW MARRIED ARE JACK AND BARBOSSA? WOW.
I like how the movie ends with everybody out to wreck shit. Barbossa's going to run the ocean! Jack has a fleet! Nobody knows what 'Syrena' and the missionary are on about, but they're both unstoppable and it's probably going to be a hot mess.
SPEAKING OF THE MISSIONARY AND THE MERMAID. That was magnificent nonsense, and the missionary is seriously not human. (Google reveals that his name is Phillip, so) Phillip, in my head, is a vampire. A vampire who found faith with such strength that it burned the evil and all memory of it right out of him and turned him back into a human. This doesn't make sense, but I can't think of him as normal. He keeps getting sliced up and then goes who cares! I need to run through the jungle! That "She has a name! (I'm actually making this up)" stunt is completely wrong - who even thinks that's okay? The mermaid does, weirdly, and then I couldn't help thinking he must be about as inhuman as she is.
That kind of instant understanding of bizarritude is straight up my alley. I don't even think the writers accidentally wrote messed-up relationship - it seems more like somebody went "Hit all my emotional fetishes" and that is how mermaid/missionary happened.

1. Vriska you are fantastic.
2. Terezi you are fantastic.
3. SLICK??!?! Don't die, I just decided that I like you yesterday! It'd be easy to get around, though - "But what kind of host would I be, to allow my guest to be murdered in a hail of gunfire? Besides, I promised him a personal brutal beating in the near future. Ha ha. Hee hee. Hoo hoo."
VRISKA COULD HAVE BEAT BEC NOIR AAAAHHH. Awesome irredeemable fuck-up of my heart - ha, the qualities Scratch names as giving her the advantage are a bunch of character flaws. It is still great that the alpha timeline has Terezi stabbing her! (I thought that would be how Karkat and Terezi's deaths would be dodged.) A debilitating stab rather than a killing one would have been great... Still, letting Vriska go was wildly impractical.
Although now I'm baaawwing deep inside that Vriska was stabbed by someone she was positive cared too much for her to do it, and that in the doomed timeline Terezi did decide she cared too much to hurt Vriska, despite knowing it meant that she and Karkat would be killed. Perhaps also because she thought it was more important to get rid of Bec Noir? Worries about becoming a hands-on killer must have influenced her too. There was still caring involved!
Now what? Vriska might or might not die, at least for a time. It would be just, and we did see that she is goddamn awesome. We're left with Rose dead, John smiling for who knows what reason, and a general idea that he, Jade, and Karkat are going to make plans about getting to the veil. And, of course, the Scratch looms (augh). Sollux and Aradia have been quiet lately, Gamzee's still running around and what, seems to be cloning his dearly departed Fishgoat... Okay, there's no point trying to figure out dangling plot threads. Lesson learned.
That (great) speech about how Seers operate has left me tentatively trying to figure out Terezi/Rose/Vriska. Playing with the shared aspects of light and seer, surely something ... catastrophic would happen and it would be AWESOME and then you'd have to throw Kanaya in there. Awesome catastrophes + girls are her bag.
and at work: Proofreading cookbooks with good photos is even worse than proofreading crossword puzzle books. At one point in the afternoon I got to the Bacon Burger and nearly leaned over and bit the proofs.
