Yuletide post!

Much belated, but at last I shall squeal and squeal about

FILAQ
The best and most awesome character in Gentlemen of the Road, who I desperately wanted a Yuletide fic about - and Epicycles wrote it! The Heart of the Heart of the World is an awesome coda to the book which is perfect in setting, style, and the choices it makes, and gave me more than I expected.

You haven't read the book? It's all online! Each chapter is linked in the epilogue: Gentlemen of the Road, by Michael Chabon. Swashbuckling con artists in a diverse early European setting. Trigger warning for rape - it's not onscreen, but is referenced in a scene that made me briefly want to haul my brain out of my ear. Nonetheless the book is absolutely beautiful - Chabon's language, swoon.

Something else that could have been a present for me was that people wrote frigging Lola fic. I LOVE THAT SONG. HERE IS THAT SONG: Lola - The Kinks. "Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand, why she walks like a woman and talks like a man, oh, Lola."

...Okay, so apparently I'm reccing Yuletide canons as opposed to fics, so here are some more good ones:

Old Spice: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like - Everyone probably knows about this by now, but just in case. Old Spice's deeply hilarious ad that launched a thousand crushes on the actor involved, Isiah Mustafah, and over nine thousand internet memes. It soothes the soul, for reals.

Oglaf - a webcomic that is 80% porn, 19% fantasy cliches, and 110% LOLZ I AM LAUGHING AT EVERYTHING.

Brandon Flowers - Crossfire - Charlize Theron beats up ninjas. ♥_____♥ I never got why she's considered particularly hot AND THEN THERE WAS THIS VIDEO. And when she and the guy look into each others' eyes...!

So here is the archive for Yuletide 2010 - all the fics, including excellent ones for these canons.

Making up lists of Yuletide fandoms is like a disease - I had a list for nominations for Yuletide 2011 five seconds after I finished requesting for 2010. I'm putting them down here in case I participate again this year.

Kat and the Kings: as musicals go, this is the light of my life and the summit of my heart (alongside Grease). I would love, love, love fic. It went to London, surely there must be some lurkers who've seen it...?

The Sound of Pulling Heaven Down: odd and pretty and epic. I'd love to see what people can do with it.

Princess Daisy: if you know what this is - it's okay, you can laugh at me.

bb_shousetsu (webzine with original slash stories) - in a previous post I recommended everything illustrated by tongari, and that sounds good for nominations too - by which I actually mean The Archive or 25 Lives. Or other stories entirely, like the one where the guy makes out with a teensy plant, or Adventures with Dubcon the Lab Experiment (not the actual name), or The Ballad of Barefoot Robin, or the one with the adorable evil scientist! It feels weird to have fanfic of stories by people who are ... so accessible, though; part of the LJ fandom community, even though it's people I don't know. I wonder if it would be more polite to ask for permission if I do decide to nominate the stories.

yuletide, books, rec - webcomic, recs, omg heart
