Completely random things

(One of those times when there are random thoughts that don't make a coherent post, but I want to get them out anyway.)

After my computer playlist went on a Disney streak:

1. A line from "Prince Ali" in Aladdin: "Just try your best to stay calm/Brush up your Sunday salaam."

Mostly, I'd be completely unable to take it if it were possible to say "The thief of Eddis stole Attolia's virginity".

*facepalm* Oh sweet lord that sounds so terrible. And yes, there are some Eddisians who would totally make that joke. However, I kind of can't imagine Attolia having sex before Gen, simply because Attolia is so firmly self-contained and has such self-protective walls that just ..can't imagine it. PLUS, I JUST WANT HER FIRST TIME TO BE WITH SOMEONE WHO CARES ABOUT HER BECAUSE ATTOLIA TOTALLY DOESN'T BELIEVE ANYONE EVER COULD.

Oh that subject, though, your opinion on Gen's virginity?

Yes and a thousand times yes.

And I too would like her opinion on Gen's virginity. I vote for "He lost it before he fell in love with Attolia, and after that, there was no one until her." Okay, I confess I'm being a little facetious, but: I genuinely can see it happening that way!

This works for me!

...but he saw her at, like, twelve, and then never mentioned anyone else, so I'm going with both of them being virgins until they married. Which is usually a trope I hate, but with them, it works.

(Hi, and thank you for not minding the random link to a post of yours. I was SUPER EXCITE about how well that image fit my mental picture of Attolia.)

I know, I know, my headcanon is doing contortions of self-justification. But I really NEED TO AVOID THAT JOKE ... even if only in my head.

PLUS, I JUST WANT HER FIRST TIME TO BE WITH SOMEONE WHO CARES ABOUT HER BECAUSE ATTOLIA TOTALLY DOESN'T BELIEVE ANYONE EVER COULD.
Me too. I feel kind of twee for wanting that but she deserves it. I think I'm going to strike a happy internal balance and go with "gentle, kind, but businesslike male courtesan".

...My opinion on Gen's virginity appears to be "But he's little! D:", which is odd, because he's done a lot more intense stuff than having sex, even if it is established that people can get away with calling him "boy" in Queen of Attolia. Still, he could definitely ( ... )

Hey, that is the miracle of the interwebs! It's actually kind of flattering.

That's kind of how I read it. Because he was very young when he was running around Sounis and Attolia (and apparently spent a lot of time subtly flirting with Attolia) and I feel like if there was a girl besides Attolia, she would have merited a mention at some point?

Makes sense. Especially with how Gen is really quite isolated, what with his issues with his cousins and being the Queen's Thief. Significant bonds would require a mention. Of course he might have slept with someone without necessarily having a relationship, but like I said, it just seems like he was a little too young.

(and apparently spent a lot of time subtly flirting with Attolia)
I will never stop laughing at the fact that the subtle flirting amounted to breaking into her country and castle. I did wonder during The Thief why he was so good at getting around in the country Attolia.

Really? Because I read Queen of Attolia first and when I went back and read The Thief, I was surprised not to see a 'real-time' scene of him watching her dance, and didn't see any foreshadowing for QoA.

I did think there should have been more foreshadowing, because there was no hint during that scene where they met - even when he called her beautiful it didn't seem like anything more than Gen being a smartass. But I did think, after Queen of Attolia, that it was a nice touch that Gen knew the castle and capital city of a different country so well. It is at least a tiny hint that Gen is spending a suspicious amount of time in Attolia.

Honestly, I think that Turner planned on The Thief being a one-shot, and that's why QoA isn't really forshadowed in that book.

This seems the most likely option. In which case, props for blasting her way into an expanded plot and one of the weirdest romances ever. *raises a toast*
