I've been spotty about commenting lately, and I'm sorry! I do want to try and catch up on comments. If it's any consolation, I've been losing it increasingly in most other aspects of life too (It's not a consolation to me! /WAILS). And Drabblevember seems to be on hold owing to my being overcome with writerly terror for no good reason, what's up with that.
Otherwise, manga:
Skip Beat! 165-166: That was seriously cheeseball and not much unexpected - except for the way it looks like Ren didn't necessarily kill someone himself. Lost in darkness, saved by troo love, yadda yadda.
But the way Ren came back from it... I find it so endearing, lovely, and awesome all at once. He's instantly calm and polite, back to the good ol' Tsuruga Ren facade, but at the same time it's just like, "Ah, right, Kyoko brought me back. Naturally." HE'S JUST SO COOL. AND A DORKFACE IN LOVE. Stop being my favourite character, Ren, I'm on Kyoko's side!
Soul Eater 75-80: Black Star talked Kid out of it? Black Star talked Kid out of it? My confusion is tremendous. Boundless. BLACK STAR?
Not that he didn't make good points. It all made sense, but BLACK STAR. It was over with in what, five pages! now they just get to use the madness as a power-up? This is all so odd. And kind of amazing. but I think Ohkubo was trying to subvert shounen manga and broader story tropes and ended up being nonsensical. Although I get the sense that the translation didn't help, especially after reading nenena's recaps ... but also, Ohkubo was really just being that confusing.
Patty & Liz & Kid backstory left me all a-wibble, female Giriko was ... hot, and such an odd choice at that point in time, and strangely short-lived... I have no idea what's going on in any kind of way in this manga. Kind of a pity Giriko died just when he/we found out Arachne's (probably) still alive. I do like how the big bads in Soul Eater tend to keep on coming back. The speech about how "the old justice becomes the new evil" was interesting, especially in context of Kid being the ascendant god. Mostly, though: what? This entire arc just totalled to zero!
