Sarah Rees Brennan
posted the first chapter of The Demon's Surrender (last book in The Demon's Lexicon series - does this trilogy have a catchy overall title?), and I couldn't resist.
Muscles that had made him look squat before, like a surly full-grown goblin rather than a kid
Socute. Aw, Nick. *dies*
He'd spelled it Sin. She'd always spelled it Cyn before. But now people looked at her and saw something different.
This is awesommmmme as something that I didn't expect to be addressed and am grateful and very interested to see more of. She even felt kind of sorry for Nick!
"I guess," the guy said, his eyes travelling over Sin's bright clothes and gleaming skin. "You're one of the attractions?"
Damn, do I hate pick-up lines.
"She's busy being underage," said the most annoying voice in the world.
They both looked around to the book stall, which Alan Ryves was leaning his bad leg against, a book in one hand and his usual expression of righteousness on his face.
oh no. Is this going to end up Alan/Sin? Even if you do wear a t-shirt that says "I GET MY FUN BETWEEN THE COVERS", Alan, you outrageous dork: Nooooooooooo. Alan pairings squick me furiously. I would not trust him with a bean. If there were a bean, within a week it would have been used in a scheme that stripped half the people he loved of autonomy, power, or everything they thought was true.
Alan's T-shirt might as well have read 'MY BROTHER IS JAILBAIT. IT'S MAKING ME ANXIOUS.'
ilu Sin's POV
Market opinion was divided on what Nick thought of Alan, their guesses ranging from 'total indifference' to 'sullen adoration.'
b-but he loves Alan :(
"Well, I don't lie," he said, tucking away the fever blossom and offering her his hand.
baaawww poor supernatural sociopath. And he doesn't even know it yet.
On a downer note: a thread where
Brennan talks about the death of fictional parents, and Annabel's death seems even more pointless. It wasn't even going to happen initially!
Anyway. While reading this it struck me that I really miss Nick's narration, and it's a little sad that there won't be another chance to get into his head, but Sin is fantastic and this looks like it's going to be at least as fun as Demon's Covenant. I think what I'm looking forward to the most is Liannan's effect on events, and Merris now that Liannan is such a big part of her. (If Sin's scenes with Mae in Covenant are anything to judge by, Surrender will probably leave us hip-deep in enemy femmeslash subtext between Sin and Liannan. XD) And also Mae vs. Sin for the Goblin Market! I hope they team up. After a lot of friendly-yet-increasingly-tense competition, but still: teaming up.
