XD Yeah, their very understated and yet nonetheless compelling - maybe because MWT doesn't try and hit you over the head with what she's trying to do, just touches on it and moves on. My assumption is that this is a deliberate indication of how very deeply they simply can't CONCEIVE of valuing a life that doesn't belong to a magician, so they just believe that oh, Jamie will get over it once he comes ONE OF THEM. I assume it's deliberate because the other magicians have displayed the same massive blind spot. See: Celeste, who seemed to see no issues with blatantly trying to KIDNAP Jamie. Oh no, why would he object to joining your circle when you've just told him you're not giving him a choice?!) Unless they're secretly engaging in massive arguments where the Muggles can't see - or they have a brainwashing machine hidden in the basement?!
Isn't Helen under Celeste's control rather than Gerald's? So at least he's not to blame for THAT especially terrible decision. I hope the third book touches on this because right now it's like a gaping abyss of LOGIC FAIL from villains who seem reasonably intelligent otherwise.
