Poor Armand. I always suspected as much: Jeanne Lange is really an 'actress' in the archaic sense of the word! ;)
Madame du Barry (Asia Argento) in Marie Antoinette (2006)
The Baroness was of course a Victorian lady from a noble background, writing at the turn of the last century, so she couldn't just come right out and say it. But there are clues. Par example: Jeanne's address, number 5, Square du Roule (as De Batz leers at Heron, 'You know where she lodges, of course!') The Hotel du Roule was a famous Paris knocking-shop in the eighteenth century (Casanova and the Marquis de Sade knew of it).
And after reading Jean Plaidy's The Road to Compiegne over Christmas, another connection has come to light: an early nom de guerre, shall we say, of Madame du Barry, Louis XV's last mistress, was Jeanne Lange!
Ingenue my foot! ;)
All in a spirit of fun, of course. Season's Greetings!
