[ Let's just get rid of this picture because I hate a lot of things when it comes to my physical appearance. ]
My instructor says not to suck in our stomachs, to let it all out. BUT THIS IS MY JOURNAL. I DO WHAT I WANT. aklsdslkja
So I've started taking Egyptian style (HAHAHA) belly dancing over at
Rebel Hips.
mechaphilia is my dance buddy. We go to the studio once a week on Wednesday evenings for a total of 8 weeks. Our class is small, maybe 10 students altogether? Maybe not even that. It's very diverse, too; Sil and I may be the youngest ones there, and all the women are of different shapes and sizes. It's a very open and accepting environment; I feel comfortable there.
Well... comfortable once I get warmed up. I'll probably start out a little awkward again when I go back, but I suppose it'll take time to get over that. I haven't been practicing at all since my first class. Started today, and gonna do at least one hour of practice every day from now on. Since I'm doing a whole lot of nothing this summer, maybe I should do one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.
I can do stomach undulations sort-of okay. I just need to smooth out the motion and work on building up speed/endurance. Tummy tub, gtfo. The first lesson was exciting, but too fast-paced for my taste. (NECK SLIDE SHOULDER POP WALK HIP SLIDE HIP TURN-) Maybe Stephanie (our instructor) was giving us a taste of all the stuff we'll have to do over the next two months? I need more than five minutes to get the hang of something.
Overall, I'm really glad I took up belly dancing. It's still pretty early, but I'm looking forward to how things turn out. Must practice hardcore...!
