"You don't want to see the implants. The Sorceress had what she could removed, of course, but I retained quite enough to prove a shocking sight to anyone unexpectedly walking in on me bathing out there... in the wild. Must have kept me safe a fair few times as well, mind you. Nobody wants to mess with a technomage."
The nod that followed was a little too vigorous or uncoordinated by that stage. The other person did not seem to care either way and kept up his slightly repetitive moves. One glass was set down, another picked up.
"Nobody wants to have sex with a technomage either." The tone was now drooping toward forlorn. "Do you have any idea how many people run at the first hint of some metal down your back?"
There was a moment's hesitation on the other's part before the motions continued.
"Oh. I mean. Never mind."
His right hand ran up the middle of his scalp, and then formed an impromptu prop for the head. "As if the zipper hadn't been enough of a birth control measure, no, I had to have the previous set as well." The forming of a self-pitying pout was nearly audible. The sigh was audible.
Another glass was set down, this time accompanied by a look some seconds longer than was appropriate. A less inebriated figure might have picked up on hints of vexation in the pause. A less inebriated figure wasn't available.
The door opened and closed, footsteps approached.
"I thought I'd find you here. You weren't supposed to run off again."
"'m perfectly fine and capable of taking care of myself. Stop fussing."
"Mm-hmm. You're also drunk when you need to be up again in four hours." The blond stopped and cocked his eyebrow behind the bar. "Don't these bartending units normally greet you whenever you enter?"
"I mebbe made it silent. Didn't want it talking back." The bartending unit was glaring at Ambrose, the towel in his hands now very carefully grinding into the latest glass to dry.
Cain said, "Ah," for lack of a better thing to say. The look at the unit came as close to an apologetic shrug as possible from human to machine. There was a world very often nearby where Cain wanted to be the technomage and Ambrose the unit if it made him silent. Unfortunately nearby was unavailable in this world. Getting tipsy people home wasn't.
"Well, how about you return him to the default settings and we go?"
Ambrose nodded uncoordinatedly and deeply again. "Yes." A cheery finger rose in the air. "Thass a good idea. I think."
Cain asked the bartender about the tab, and got a nod and a very clear eye-roll to confirm things were as before.
Having lifted his head again, Ambrose squinted at the mirror in front of him on the other side of the bar. "What were we doing again?"
"Unit. Default settings."
A smile spread on the former headcase's face. "You know, I'm very good with machines now that I remember that again."
Cain was getting his coat off the other stool and made the appropriate, encouraging noises, both designed and by then well-practised not to interrupt the line of thought. Whatever Ambrose did, Cain would make sure to send someone over in the morning to check the settings were as they should be. Well-practised went also for knowing how this went with the technomancy when not in full control.
The other man waved behind his back without looking. "Bye, George." As he ferried Ambrose out, Cain sighed.

Poor Ambrose, though!

I figured he got most or some of his tech back once he got his brain (more or less) back. And that he's happy with the tech, quite alright with people not wanting to mess with that side (The lack of kinky people wanting technomancers, not so much perhaps). He's just being cranky or self-pitying about something for some reason. Didn't tell me why, he just runs off from everyone to avoid something.
Hence, being the first of the (future) technomancers, too. Jedi deal, except he's one of the old ones as well, not a newbie like Luke. Someone else would have to write actual action or other scenarios for this though, I'm just stretching out with writing now again.
