An update vis-a-vis my existence

Jul 27, 2010 00:11

Ah, remember back in the day when I posted during the Snowpocalypse? No? Well, it's the Tornadocalypse now. We have a lot of 'pocalypses round here.

Hour 26 without power. I feel my mind slipping uncomfortably warm and mildly concerned, if only because I'm behind on my work and the food in the fridge will all spoil and there are too many blueberries for that to happen. Also I'm all gross in this DC weather with no AC. My skin WAS almost getting better, I swear, but no longer. I'm frantically putting creams I found (expiration date: 2004!) on it, but to no avail.

Also, did you know that my hair becomes wavy given enough humidity? Neither did I! I always thought my hair was straight. I look quite Jewish now. I feel in touch with my heritage. Unfortunately, being a member of the aforementioned desert tribe has not increased my tolerance of the heat. I much prefer the cold - I guess Eastern Europe is in my genes. Speaking of which, can I get in touch with my Lithuanian heritage now? I bet it's lovely there this time of year.

You know, I'm not much of one to complain about the government - I know it personally, it does the best it can - but I gotta say, I am disappoint. A half-hour storm shuts down half the DC metro area for days? Hey, aspiring terrorists, here's a tip: if you want to attack, cut a power line or two. The city will collectively shit itself.

So, Julia, you are definitely not may be asking, if you have no power, how are you posting? Well, see, I ingeniously took the bus and the metro to my grandma's apartment building, which has its own generator. Then I proceeded to get done all the work I need to do, by which I mean charged my phone, checked my f-list, and ate cheese souffles, not work on the company site like my boss asked me to. I could make excuses about the lack of wi-fi meaning I couldn't use my own laptop with the debugging tools and ftp client, but I don't actually need that shit, and if that was actually an issue I would find a Starbucks or something. The real issue is that I'm a lazy bum who likes LJ and cheese. Ah well, I'll do the work eventually. Maybe the office will have power tomorrow. It BETTER.

Ach, I just found some almost-spoiled bananas. I would love to try making a banana bread, if the oven worked. But all I can do is mourn their loss.

Anyway, so I charged Ezhov the trusty Blackberry (from whom I am posting) so that I may post to LJ to my heart's content, which is what I am now doing out of mild boredom. Still can't look at picspam, though, or figure out how to log out so that I can use my SECRET IDENTITY account. Le sigh. I hope this is fixed soon. But I have enough to do. I think I may try and transfer some ebooks to my shiny new graduation present iPad. (Because I don't have time to read them on my laptop - two hour battery life?! Honestly?! That wasn't on the package!) Or I may play my rom of Dragon Quest 4. I just saved the children of fantasy Scotland from something or other! Now I'm in fantasy Russia for some reason! I don't know, I'm bad at paying attention to plots. Or I may, y'know, read a for real book. The kind with no batteries or anything. SO WEIRD.

I hope the dog isn't too warm. I don't think she quite understands that the basement is the only non-furnace part of the house right now. She was also barking at ghosts.

Hm, I was going to fret about Otakon (three days! so excited! STILL HAVEN'T FINISHED COSTUME! May have to bind for a female cosplay!) but this entry is long enough. Although anyone else going to Otakon may feel free to squeal about it with me here. I would like someone to talk to!

tl;dr, my boring life
