When they’re lying in bed and she’s curled up on his chest, he wonders how he got so lucky.
He’s Percy Jackson, king of the geeks. He has dyslexia and ADHD. He’s the guy who gets tripped in the halls and shoved into lockers at school. He’s a freak. And so it shouldn’t, by any means, make sense that he’s got a beautiful girl in his arms making soft noises into his ear as she sleeps.
Annabeth is smart and kind and fierce in battle. She’s the girl every other girl wants to be. Percy knows she could have any boy she wanted, any boy in the world. He never imagined someone like her would choose someone like him, and it still surprises him that at the end of the day, he’s the one who gets to kiss her. He’s the one who gets to call her his girlfriend. He’s the one she loves.
When she shifts her clean, familiar scent envelops him and his eyelids begin to droop. As he drifts off to sleep he thinks about how his best friend became so much more than the girl of his dreams, and he wonders how he got so lucky.
