Author's Notes: I've written, and re-written this thing about...Five times. It started as a cute little 100-word drabble, but then I didn't like how bland it was, so I redid it...And now...Here we are~!! So...anyway... Here we go! Un'beta'ed. Enjoy!

It happened once. Just as a clock in the Hitachiin residence struck three in the morning, and one of a large, queen-sized bed’s occupants sat bolt upright, shaking, sweating, scared, and looking around with wide amber eyes in the encroaching darkness. His legs were twisted in the bed sheets and his night cloths stuck to his torso and the back of his calves, and as he moved the cover was jerked from his twin brother’s still sleeping form, causing the other boy to stir and sit up slowly.

“Hikaru?”

“Am I Hikaru?” he asked out loud.

A silence, and then the second boy was sitting up just as rigidly, fumbling in the darkness for a hand to hold and clutching his brother’s fingers in a bone crushing hold. The only illumination in the entire room was the bright moonlight, cascading in through the large window and casting elongated shadows over the two five-year olds who sat motionless in their bed.

“You can be Kaoru,” the second offered. “I’ll be Hikaru.”

“...So you’re Hikaru.”

“Or I could be Kaoru.”

“No...No...That’s okay.”

“I...okay.” He nodded, bringing his other hand around to lie on top of their entangled digits and betting the back of his twin’s hand calmingly. “Okay.”

“And besides,” Hikaru’s voice took on an anxious tone, attempting to make light of both their momentary lapse of self dignity and recondition. “It doesn’t really matter what name is ours. People call us both, anyway.”

“Yeah...Yeah! And we’re twins. Identical. In every way,” Kaoru agreed readily, nodding enthusiastically.

“Even in name.” And they relaxed, allowing themselves to lay back down on the messy bed and curled, facing each other as their legs became just as entangled as their hands, and in the morning, although their lower halves were no longer entwined, both hands were still embraced tightly, and the limbs were numb and tingling.

But it was comforting.
