2014 Recap

Here we are, New Years Eve 2014/2015. December was a pretty tame month, and so I'm going to recap the year instead of the usual post. Christmas came and went pretty quickly this year, and a big portion of my free time this past month was spent designing, printing, and painting presents from the 3D printer.

I was particularly happy with the clock I made for Dad.

Also in December, there was the mass shooting that happened in the area. The ex husband of one of my old high school friends, Nikki, killed her and most of her family before taking his own life. It was a pretty tense day in town, and a senseless act.

But anyways, the year is over, and it's time to look back on things. 2014 wasn't a remarkable year in terms of life changing events, but it was a good one. It was a prosperous year at home, and one of good health for Deb, myself, and our cats. We added a new pet to the family with Fred, our bearded dragon. We went on two memorable vacations: Pennsic and Mexico. Our fourth season at Pennhurst was as much fun as the third, with us returning as Dr. Somethinstan and Jane. We cleaned house quite a bit, getting rid of a lot of old things through eBay and yard/blanket sales. We finally got a table for the dining room, and it's been in use nonstop ever since. In November, we hit our savings goal for a down payment on a new home. Our weekends were well spent; There were several Markland events, a Pennsic workshop, paddling/tubing, Pinnacle hike, Knoebels, PAX East, MAGFest, Too Many Games, a zombie walk, Maker Fair NYC, Fort Frederick, Kutztown Game Jam, the Mask and Wig production, Lansdale Arts Festival, and more.

This was the year I amped up my identity as a Maker (a little electronics humor, there) after three years of learning. Between the multitude of electronics projects and my venture into 3D printing, it's easy to say that I've found a past time that will stick with me for many years to come. I built servo locked puzzle boxes, automated my home with a magic wand, turned port-o-potties into discos, scared the neighborhood with my automated Halloween display, plotted scores of vinyl decals, and printed various fun little projects and commissions with the printer. At work, I survived the big layoff, landed top performer in my year-end review, and several of the investigations I took part in lead to arrests all around the country.

And that was 2014. In the upcoming year, Deb and I have to make the decision about trying once again with selling our house and purchasing a new home. I've been under this roof for 22 years, so I'm motivated. Next week Deb and I will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary, and in May I hit my 10 year anniversary with the company. Hopefully 2015 will be another good year for our family.
