Only a Week

I've suddenly realized that I'll be actually running the LA Marathon at this time next week. My official race confirmation postcard finally arrived; I'd used e-mail to update my address but it still got forwarded from the old house instead. There was nowhere obvious on the website to update any information... scarily, parts of the website are unfinished. Last report was that 10,000 people have signed up for a race that has attracted over 19,000 people beforehand. It's not epic fail but this isn't exactly a stellar effort by the new race directors.

As I've reported before, the LA City Council is pushing to return the race to March, on a Sunday. I'm looking forward to that. I think I may just be doing this one because I'm stubborn, but hey, that's a good quality for a marathon runner. I'd really like to say I've run the LA Marathon, and have the t-shirt and medal to prove it. I haven't done a real race in months (since the Surf City Half... we had a "mock" half-marathon as well a few weeks after, but stopping at lights and do-it-yourself water stations detracted from the experience a bit).

My weight has hopped back up somewhat, but I blame that on my sister's wedding this past weekend. I should get closer to normal after my system gets used to not having a buffet, snack foods, restaurant trips, and so on. I'm also a bit worried about the new sneakers I picked up, my old ones are thrashed and I doubt they'd serve me well through one marathon, let alone two. I know better than to use anything new so close to the race, but I've no other choice, although I'll take a shot at finding exactly the same sneaks again today.

I'll have to figure out the plan for race day transportation, the traditional carbo-loading meet, the final club pre-race session, and the Expo. I'm sure they went over this on Saturday when I was in Arizona, so I'll have to check out the boards or send out a couple texts to figure out what's going on. I don't think I'm gonna inflict LA on the family, although they're looking forward to San Diego the next weekend.

Time to get in a little run today. Loose, limber, rested, relaxed and stretched is how I want to be for the next two weeks.
