grillin' usa: the end, my beautiful friend

Mar 20, 2008 18:14

oh you silly, silly chicagoans! still stuck in the crutch of winter's despair, barely passing 40 degrees and minimal sun. if only you knew the divine pleasure of arkansas' mid-american heat! my skin still radiates from a day of sitting in pleasant spring temperatures, flushed with the internal happiness which was finally emancipated from months of bleak grayness and shivering cold. perhaps you are feeling flushed yourself now. is it from the pains of jealousy, perhaps?

i am an urban cowgirl riding the historical trail of tears and route 66 (with minimal kicks). tomorrow i will be one with you again. did you miss me? have you lost touch of what my face looks like these days? i finally uploaded pictures, so even though i will be back in a mere 24 hours (and counting!), you can catch up with some photos of this certifiable okla-ho'ma.

entering west memphis, arkansas

don't take in all this beauty at once

roaming with the buffalo in oklahoma

real buffalo

not a real buffalo. at this particular gas station/buffalo sanctuary, they also sold buffalo chicken sandwiches. i thought it was kind of perverse but also disappointing.

this is what i look like when i drive the uhaul, except angrier.

i really wanted a special pastoral representation of mid-america, except i look like a douchebag hipster in knock-off raybans.

this is a winery i made us stop off at. their wine was ok. i prefer reds/drier wines but they have more of a focus on sweet wines. the muscat was pretty good, but i mainly enjoyed how hospitable and culturally interesting it was compared to the applebees/crackerbarrels i've been subjected to. even with free wine tastings, corey didn't seem impressed by having to do something interesting/stop listening to urban top 40 for a few minutes.

well i had fun at least.

the following are some photos from the la quinta we stayed at in oklahoma city. such a dream!

and now for some more scenic views of arkansas.

i just realized all of this is backtracking, so if you want to see the real progression, scroll from the bottom up. anyway, these were biscuits and gravy i had at the iron skillet.

it was fucking gross/delicious.

forcing a tired smile at penn station in new york.

at the MoMA. i took this myself, acting like it was candid/i was lost in thought.

i thought this series was cool. my favorite was this video of a woman fellating a milk carton, but i didn't take a pic.

there are more photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/magnacarla/

i should have just done that first. oh, by the way, i'm getting evicted from my apartment so if anyone needs a roommate like, now, that would be awesome.
