grillin' usa: day 2

Mar 12, 2008 20:59

competition is fierce. a bloody (as well as juicy, meaty and rare) competition among charbroil, webber and brinckman. what are we competing over? how many home depot employees can retain the information about our grill and maybe want to sell it. we sell nothing. they hand out paper and pens. we grill. "taste the difference," we say. they really can't taste the difference, but the sell tastes good. and juicy.

my body is in a state of reality shock. what is time? daylights savings, jet lag, 5:45 mornings are actually 4:45 mornings. 4:45 mornings are actually 3:45 mornings (taking into account daylights savings). i live off of coffee and meat. i tried to live off applebees, marking a rather sad moment in my life. my partner didn't seem to keen on trying thai food, which he apparently has never had. "i'll look at the menu and see." a passive way of saying, "what the fuck is thai?/fuck no i won't eat that." more facts about my traveling companion: along with praying at meals at applebees, he is partial to dining at chili's and the idea of grilling vegetables is very nouveau. other than a hopeful evening of malaysian food in philadelphia tomorrow, i don't foresee a culinary adventure--beyond grilling across america, of course. otherwise, he's a fine, young man amid an identity crisis and a clear disdain of people remarking on his height.

it is very cold in new jersey. i was issued two polos and a red columbia fleece that says "charbroil red" on it. i look sensational. my hands have started cracking again from the cold, but i did not bring lotion with because i feared confiscation from the tsa. the tsa says i can only bring 3 ounces of liquid on the plane. what does that mean? does that mean that my three lip balms, travel tooth paste and deodorant prevent me from bringing lotion? when 4 oz. is a matter of another several hours, i'm willing to hold off my bets.

we plotted our itinerary:
newark, nj --> philly, pa
philly, pa --> columbus, oh
columbus, oh --> memphis, tn
memphis, tn --> midwest city, ok
midwest city, ok --> tulsa, ok
tulsa, ok --> rogers, ar
rogers, ar --> chicago, il

i seriously don't know what the fuck is up when i get back but this trip kind of totally rules right now.
