A few days ago I was "surfing the web", as the youngins' call it, and I had an epiphany. I'm not quite sure the exact definition of epiphany but I think this applies. It seems like throughout history, or maybe just recently in the 21st Century, that the use of the name Jack is always accompanied with 'Captain'. When I finally got to the episodes of Dr. Who with Captain Jack Harkness in it I remember thinking: "That reminds me of Captain Jack Sparrow! Huh." Then the other day I was reading some Office-related thing and remembered in the episode 'Booze Cruise' the captain of the ship was Captain Jack. Just 'Captain Jack'.
Why, suddenly, is every captain now named Jack. It seems like nowadays if you name your boy Jack you are bestowing a great amount of expectancy on him from the get go! And apparently dooming him to become a captain.
In other respects there are people like Jack Bauer or Jack from Lost. Both are heroic and fight evil. Even Jack-Jack from the Incredibles was special. Why the name Jack? Why?
Addition to my Celebrity Hot List:
I just had to add the beautiful and ruggedly handsome Christopher Eccleston to my Celebrity Hot List! As the Ninth Doctor he chuckled his way through trouble and taught us the importance of bananas! Fantastic! Now he plays the disconnected, strict, and invisible Claude Reigns(a possible fake name) in Heroes. If he's not throwing heroes' off buildings he's punching them and stealing scarves!
