this wonderful post about the Doctor's Suits, we've been talking about doing our own for Series 4! Well, I decided it's summer and I have too much free time. So after weeks of searching and scouring, I bring you the "Suits and Ties of Series 4"
PiC is one of the few episodes this season where the Doctor wears two different suits. In the beginning of the episode he is wearing his brown suit, with a dark blue shirt and stripy tie. The same stripy tie he wore around his drunken head in Girl in the Fireplace! A very sexy combination!
Later in the episode he changes into a white shirt and brown, dotted tie. A simple but attractive look.
In this episode we are treated to his brown suit with dark blue shirt and a different dotted tie combination. In fact, they look like dotted squares.
In a confusing turn of events, the Doctor decides not to wear a tie on his coldest adventure of the season! But, I'm not complaining! This is the first appearance of the blue suit for Donna. He chooses to wear a burgandy shirt with the collar pulled out and a light red undershirt/jumper.
Once the Martha episodes show up we see less creativity in the Doctor's suit (Wonder why?). In both episodes he wears his blue suit with a light blue shirt and a regular red tie. Not even the tie has anything interesting! But I suppose if it keeps Infatuated!Martha at bay then, I support it.
Because of the Doctor's lackluster combination, we rarely see any of the suit in the second parter. You can tell from the pictures I found that even the camera operators didn't feel motivated to tilt down. :(
In The Doctor's Daughter, we get some variety in the form of a new tie! Same blue suit, same blue shirt but the tie is a mahogany red with black stripes. Yes, I realize it's hard to see the stripes in the pictures I found, but you're just going to have to trust me. It's still pretty, right?
In the Unicorn and the Wasp we get our classic brown suit back! And with it a white shirt and his classic dotted tie. Very classic! Have I said 'classic' enough? It's classically a classic!
In the same episode we are treated to a flashback of the Doctor. In his hunt for Charlemagne, he wears his blue suit with dark red shirt and a blue/red tye-dye tie (that's a mouthful!). A combination I would like to see him wear more often!
And, as if to answer my prayers, we get the same combination for the Moffat two parter. Blue suit, dark red shirt and a tye-dye tie! One of my favorite combinations for one of my least favorite episodes.
Now that I think about it, his combinations are beginning to match the moods of each episode. This is a sad and depressing two-parter so he wears his darkest outfit. Whilst, in the previous episode he was wearing a light and cheerful getup! Hmmm...
I think this is my favorite outfit of the season, though I'm not sure why. In Midnight the Doctor goes back to his brown suit and wears a dark blue shirt with the collar out and a blue jumper underneath. ...IDK, maybe I like it because of DT's brilliant acting in this episode. I am a little bias.
For the brief times we see The Doctor in this episode, he is looking good. He is back in a classic combo. Brown suit, white shirt and his square-dotted tie!
Seeing as The Doctor was so worried about the End of the Universe, he didn't find the time to change outfits between Turn Left and Stolen Earth.
Same goes for Journey's End. Too busy getting killed by a Dalek and regenerating that he didn't have time to change. Not even his tie. But I think it was intended (by Russel or the wardrobe dept) to have the Doctor in his most original and classic combination for the last 3 episodes. And I'm so glad they did!
Then we have Doctor Who Point 2! Though I'm sure he was comfortable being naked, he put on his blue suit with a red jumper to help save the day and steal Rose! I found this Doctor to be just as attractive in such a simple combination! Though I doubt it's the end of the blue suit, it was nice to have such a metaphorical goodbye for it. Cuz, sometimes it seemed like the Doctor became two different people once he started wearing the blue.
It took me a while to work on this and you know what? Scouring through all the episodes only made me want to do one of these solely for Donna! She had the best clothing of all the companions! So, look out for that one next! ;)
