May 04, 2012 16:09

acosmistmachine recently posted a query as to why there is so much drama in the male-male romance marketIt's a point near and dear to my heart, as, well, I write in that market professionally, not to mention play a fairly major role in Fandom by posting fanfiction. I'm also a marketing professional turned full-time writer, so trends fascinate me ( Read more... )

I can see why this was waaaay over the limit for a comment *laughs*. I also think you've smacked the nail on the head good and hard. The big houses still see e-pub as a rebellious phase the kids are going through and that it's something they'll grow out of *rolls eyes ( ... )

I do have a thing for smacking presented targets. *grins*

Completely agree about the range of ebook use, and how with technology rolling along as it is, this isn't going to go away.

And subtle is absolutely the first word that comes to mind when I think of you. Totally.

Thanks for the epic response, which also happens to be very interesting and informative. I am also in the US and very aware of the changing views towards homosexuality on many different levels that's happening right now. I've also been reading a lot of stuff about the changes happening in the publishing industry in general due to the digitalization and the rise of things like ebooks, self publishing and market places like Amazon. I hadn't thought to put all three issues together though, and you make a very good point in doing so ( ... )

Oh me and my connection-making silly ways. *wink*

Glad you didn't mind me calling this out. Just thought it was an interesting question, and it ignited this particular soapbox in my head. I'm glad you enjoyed reading this bit of babble!

The entire Shades of Grey phenomenon has really bothered me. Not that I don't like the idea of grabbing a kinky or m/m book at my local Target, (SoG is on their shelves) but the misrepresentation waters down the experience.
My sister in law who (I'm assuming this because I've known her for 13+ years) hasn't a kinky bone in her body and is not aware of my kinky bones called me up to recommend SoG.
I read it. Wasn't captivated.
I get better reading here on LJ or y-gal. And I told her so.
And she was shocked. Thought it was amazing. Couldn't put it down. Blech.
I'm done.
I'll wait while everyone else catches up.

Patience will be key here.

While I wait, I wholly encourage you to write/publish more books & stories. Balance all the bullshit and what not.

Patience. Mmm. Right. I guess I always need to reasons to develop that ever-elusive skill. XD

And thank you. *hugs* Very kind of you to say, darlin'.
