caught this show on Sunday...very nice, sweet show...and absolutely weird and spastic but fun!
made a big mistake catching it at GV Grand, which was one of the 2 cinemas offering scentertainment, as in they blew chocolate smells into the theatre throughout the show. it smelled more like shit then chocolate... yucks...
the show is a little cute and bizarre at the same time. it is essentially a morality fable about 5 children who win golden tickets which allow them and one family member to visit the eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, which has not been seen by anyone else in 15 years.
there is the fat, obese Augustus Gloop, a German eating machine who eats anything edible that he can get his hands on. then there is the obnoxious Violet Beauregarde who is out to win in everything. and bratty little Veruca Salt who is such a delightful little spoilt princess (my personal favourite character among the 5 kids). then there is the smart ass Mike Teavee who only cares for computer games that are violent and nothing else. and of cos the very save, sweet but ultimately boring Charlie Bucket, who is the last kid standing and gets a chance to inherit the factory from Willy.
the 2 biggest highlights of the show for me were the fantastic sets esp the room where the trees and grass are candy and there is the chocolate river and waterfall (all made from real chocolate apparently, all 200 gallons of it!) and check out that pink seahorse boat and the other highlight is the weird Oompa Loompas who burst out into song everytime one of the kids gets 'eliminated'. they are a hoot as they are all played by the same person and he has the kind of face that just makes ppl laugh when you see it.
