Rating: Rated A for angst. :| Should be okay for everyone - very, very slight mentions of blood.
Only a few days after Ange had discovered another girl sitting here on the docks, she found herself sitting there this time. But it hadn't been some random spur of the moment - no, it was rather that she just needed to be alone for a bit now. She didn't have her Watch shift today, so she had decided to go see Battler that morning instead, but.. his croft had been empty. And moreover, contrary to the time he had gone and gotten himself lost in the forest, all his possessions were gone as well. The only thing that had been left was the chess set she had made together with Med'an only a little more than a month before, for his birthday.
And for some reason she didn't quite understand as well the girl had taken the wooden chessboard and pieces along with her to the docks, where she was sitting now, staring down at the water in quiet contemplation. But her expression was far from its usual pokerface, far from her calm deadpan. Instead she was clearly frowning, her expression a bit more wild - torn between frustration and a longing to just cry. As she stared at the water below the docks, she couldn't help but for a moment feel like that fateful night when everything had started. On the top of that skyscraper, looking down into the streets below, ready to just let go--
Her fingers curled around one of the wooden pawns on the chess board as she picked it up, frowning at the piece intensely as if it was that thing's fault that everything had happened. After all, things had more or less been perfect here for her, even with the addition of the fae. She had family here, friends from back home and friends from this place, even a boyfriend, but now.. There had been that attack by the dragon on the village, Souji had his own problems to deal with, and now even Battler disappeared from this place.
And that was enough to remind her of the vulnerability of the situation, like someone decided to burst her bubble.
One step forward, two steps back.
It wasn't until then that she noticed that she had been so lost in her thoughts and worries that she had held the piece a bit too tightly, nails digging into her own hand palm by now and drawing up blood. Part of her just wanted to throw away that cursed chessboard and pieces that only reminded her of her brother away, but as she heaved her hand she suddenly knew she couldn't.
So instead she idly dropped the piece back on the board, some slight blood splatters from her palm splashing on the tiles as well.
She didn't pay it any attention though. Instead she instead turned her attention back to looking into the distance, letting out an almost shuddering breath as she swallowed back her tears to keep them from appearing on her face. She wasn't going to cry. Even if she was sure she was alone here at the docks right now, she still didn't allow herself to do that much. So instead her expression as she looked out over the water could maybe be expressed better as just completely empty.
( ooc: I wrote this in prose just for easier reading, but I would love you forever and seriously prefer it if I could just have action tags since prose takes me forever to write and makes me feel more insecure. As many people can tag this as they want to, just make a new thread for your character when you tag! )
