The warmth and dim light of the fireplace in the Inn was usually some comfort to Darryn. A place he definitely liked to retreat to often in this cold, dark world he'd wound up in.
Usually was the key word, as right at that moment Darryn wouldn't have noticed if the fire and logs turned into salamanders and danced at his feet. He was just too tense. For some reason the past few weeks had been oddly turbulent - red mist, invasive voices in his head, serious talks - all culminating in arrival of someone who apparently knew him somehow. Despite never having met them before.
Darryn tapped his foot against the leg of the chair he was sitting on, watching the fire without seeing it. He counted each breath in and out as he waited for this man, Thanatos, to show up. It didn't relieve his tension.
He only hoped the explanation he would be offered would.
