It felt like he'd fallen off something because he woke up with a sudden thunk in his ears, his hands finding the floor and pushing himself up hastily. For some reason, his heart was beating incredibly fast... Must have been a nightmare. Unless something was wrong outsi - outside? What in gods name was he doing outside? There was fresh air and sky and stars and cold that stung his skin. He hadn't seen the stars in so long he'd forgotten what they looked like.
But it wasn't what was in the sky that made him double take, it was everything else. There was a forest behind him, a thick grove of tree's so dense he couldn't see inside, and he was standing on some sort of bridge. There was water underneath him, he could hear it running a smooth trickle beneath the wood under his feet.
He groped in his front pocket for his glasses, turning the other way and putting them on in one motion, for now not noticing the little black box that had been in the pocket too. Just as he didn't notice the crown of Rowan berries donning his brow.
What he did notice as he squinted through his glasses was a small village, and in front of said village a dark figure on horseback coming toward him slowly through the night. Behind this figure were others moving to catch up with it, two of them looked like they were glowing, and one is was creature he was sure sure he had seen in kids book once.
Either way, his reaction was pretty much set in stone, as he stared at the oncoming scene and spoke aloud.
"Oh... My... God."
