the review:
if there was one album ive anticipating for years, it was the one i had to miss the release date on. i made up for it by not taking it out of the CD player the first run through.
i have this habit of listening to a cd and if i dont like the overall sound of the cd, then ill put it on the wait list to be listened to when im bored.
and this is how i felt about Brand New's The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. The overall cd sound has a gloominess to it that gave me an melancholy mood afterward. But i swore i wouldnt give up on it. after running the cd through 2 more times. it was clear how to evaluate it:
im into lyrical consistency and quality. i expected nothing less from brand new, and i sorta expected them to lack in the area because of the high expectation. yet they still suprised me with their artistic lyrical range.
the albums has a lyrical foundation that relate to a person of internal conflict with sin and self evaluation. considering pride, lust and afterlife in many of its song.
bottom line, if youre into deeper artistic lyrical meanings overlayed with guitar effects that could be described as ghostly.. this could be your next favorite CD.
vince score: 5/5
