things that make you go...wtf?

Remember that post yesterday, about wanting to resign from the human race? Maybe I'll just resign from fandom instead. It's no secret I'm a H/G shipper. Normally I'm a live and let live kinda gal. I don't really get involved in 'shipping debates. I can empathize with the fact that the H/Hr 'shippers are upset because their ship has been sunk. I ( Read more... )

Book five is known as the Harry and Hermione show. Hermione was Harry's voice of conscience, the one he depended on more than Ron or Ginny or anyone else to help him get through his fifth year.I've always been baffled by this assertion because, for me, OotP perfectly illustrated why Harry and Hermione would make a horrible couple. Harry is perfectly willing to confide in Hermione if he knows she's going to support and help him. However, if he thinks she's going to disapprove or withhold support from him, he doesn't tell her anything and Harry does this so that he doesn't have to listen to her nag ( ... )

Just out of curiosity, in which instance are you asserting that Harry took Hermione's side over Ron? In the whole relationship thing, he was kind of after both of them to kiss and make up, I thought.

I should have phrased it better but I got the impression that Harry was as disgusted with Won-won and Lavendar as Hermione was.

Oh, I definitely think he was. I think he thought Hermione was being a little stubborn, too, though, in her refusal to talk to Ron.

A fine rant. I don't really have anything to add, because I agree with pretty much everything you wrote.

This is a great rant. The only thing I think I'd point out is I don't get the impression that JKR even knew about the ship debates until a year or so ago. The reason she didn't sink H/Her sooner was probably because she never realised the extent to which H/Her shippers went to prove their ship was the one until recently. Sure, she could have treated H/Her the way she treated D/Her but she was in a situation where she was damned if she didn't and damned if she did.

This is an awesome rant. I only have one thing to add.

2-Why did you spend so long developing Hermione's character and not Ginny's?

Answer: Because the books are told from Harry's point of view, not the author's. Let's look at how she *did* develop Ginny:

1. Ginny was one of the first witches he met, on the platform in PS/SS; he watched her running after the train as the train pulled away; and then she's not seen again in the book because she wasn't there. Nothing for Harry to comment on ( ... )
