Fandom to return to center stage later today, really, I promise. I still haven't seen last week's Criminal Minds or Numb3rs, but I do have some thoughts on CSI: NY, CSI, Without a Trace, and Moonlight from last week. Also, I may write something small up about Law & Order SVU from this week, because one of their bad guys was Stephen Collins who ( Read more... )

You know, coming into this election season I seriously thought that there was no way we could lose. I guess I underestimated the ability of Democrats to shoot themselves in the foot.

What I want to know is why your main room was used as a classroom during the day, and why my friend John was an artist. I'm telling you, your office had my dream library. I have reasonably legitimate reasons for needing books on both weaponry and poisons. When I'm not just weirded out by it, I'm kind of amused by my mother the assassin too.

I just don't think that this is true, while I certainly agree it has proven true on an international level, I don't think that American politics have borne this idea out ( ... )

... and her husband saying she's old and sleep deprived.Something about this makes me laugh. I mean, it's bad and horrible and I hate the way the race is going, but this phrasing is hilarious. I suppose it probably wouldn't be except I've seen the clip of B. Clinton saying "When they're 60 they'll forget something when they're tired and its 11 o'clock at night!" It actually kind of reminded me of Grandma, when she would always say "You'll be old someday..." and much as I love Grandma, I wouldn't have wanted her to be my president ( ... )

>I've listened to my parents and grandparents talk about a time when Catholics were every bit as second-class citizens as ethnic and racial minorities.<
Hello again (*wave*).
I am old enough- just about- to remember that it was quite a big jump for someone of Irish Catholic ancestry to be running for President. But, to put it in perspective, JFK was white, male,Christian, the son of a multimillionaire, and former ambassador. And didnt he go to a private school? His Catholicism was the only thing that marked him out from people who normally fill the Senate/run for president, with the background of a, well a George W Bush (or an Al Gore, for that matter). A female or black person president is a much bigger step for the US, it seems to me from the outside looking in, particularly the latter.Isn't Obama something like only the 5th black senator, ever??

Because I'm finding this to be an interesting discussion that I'd like to let the rest of my flist in on, and because I'm a research junkie and couldn't possibly do my own research justice in a comment, I've made a top-level entry dealing with these issues.

That post is here

I'd certainly welcome your continued involvement in the discussion.
