A very easy and cheap recipe that I like in cold weather:
Prepare Uncle Ben's Long Grain and Wild Rice according to the directions. During the last three minutes pour in a can of Progresso's lentil soup. It doesn't get easier than that. I think it tastes even better the next day.

Book rec:
I started reading the Laurel Hamilton books when they first came out, and had the same experience with them that you did. Narcissus in Chains was so bad I stopped reading her all together. My favorite urban fantasy series by far is the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. It's great!

Yum! I actually pretty much love Progresso's lentil soup to start with and mixing with the rice should make it a little heartier.

I was so very disappointed over the Laurel Hamilton books. I thought there was so much potential in the characters and the world. I made it through Narcissus in Chains, though I was already pretty unhappy with how things were turning out. About halfway through the next book (Cerulean Sins, I think), I just gave up.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've had the first of the Tanya Huff books on a shelf for awhile now, so I'll probably start there, but the Kate Daniels series sounds like it has just about all of the things I love, so I've definitely got those on my list.

Thanks again.
