I bought a phone today. Samsung Intercept running Android 2.2 something.
Anyway, it will do most everything I want a phone to do, and it looks like as long as I leave the things I'm not using (like wi-fi and bluetooth) turned off, I'm going to be getting a pretty decent battery life out of it.
I am kind of vaguely disappointed that I can't use the Kongregate app on it, but then again, I probably didn't need to be wasting all of my time playing silly games. I'm debating whether I want to see what exactly Angry Birds is, because I think the birds are kind of cute and I keep seeing it referenced all over the place.
I put the Pandora app on, and it is exceedingly simple to use. I suspect I'll be getting quite a bit of mileage out of it after hours during tax season. I also added a bar code reader, primarily because it also reads QR codes and I see them everywhere (including in an annual scavenger hunt the library does).
I chose to Intercept for one very simple reason, and I can't complain. I bought it because other than the blackberry, it was the only smartphone that had a physical keyboard. I hate virtual keyboards. I hate touchscreens, but I'm having to get used to this one. The physical keyboard is fantastic, but it's not always practical to use it, and even when it is, a lot of using the phone involves the touchscreen.
The camera is mediocre. Reviews say it can be a little bit laggy, but I've not had a problem with it so far, and I suspect that aggressively killing persistent apps when not in use, will help with keeping it that way.
Anybody using an android and have recommendations for apps that I just have to have? Also, I must find ringtones that don't make me want to gauge my eardrums.
