The cylinder head temperature gauge in my plane hasn't worked for as long as I've owned it, and I asked my mechanic to take a crack at it while he's doing the current oil change. It's a little gauge with a needle that can point to a green arc at the left, with a red line on the far right telling you it's too hot. No numerical display.
Because this is an aeroplane, a replacement part will cost $427 plus shipping and labour. I'm slightly outraged, until I realize that the only reason I can afford a plane in the first place is because aerospace parts are so expensive.
Also because this is an aeroplane, there are two ways to do everything. I already have a separate digital display that gives me the temperature of all four cylinder heads individually.
