30 Womenz: Lois Lane

Feb 15, 2011 22:28

So yeah.  Here's me being a conformist bitch :D  And this is day one!

DAY ONE: FAVOURITE FEMALE LEAD

(Honourable mention to Buffy, who is undeniably an amazing lead character.  Her journey through the show is what drives it, and she's just awesome guys.  I love her.  I want to be like her.  But Lois wins because I want to BE her.)

This woman, as I have said before and will again, is the reason I'm going into journalism.  When I was little my parents used to watch Lois and Clark and I would too.  I always adored Lois: she was strong, principled and just generally awesome.  (Plus it helps that Teri Hatcher and my mum look really similar.)  I think when my mum cut my hair into a bob, styled it and told me I looked like Lois clinched it.  I was about 5 and was so happy already to be compared to her.

Here's a breakdown of why Lois rules:

- She takes crap from no-one.
- She's pushy.
- She won't stop until she gets what she wants or what she feels is right.
- She believes in bringing the truth to people.
- She has great morals.
- She will always speak her mind.
- DUDE SHE'S A BADASS JOURNALIST!

I'm not going to do a massive meta for these characters, just a general appreciation post.  So I won't break down her journey or anything, mostly because it's so hard as there are so many incarnations of her.  My favourite Lois is probably Smallville's version (even though she gets a bit victim-esque in the latest seasons).  But I grew up with Teri Hatcher's Lois so she'll have a special place in my heart.  Margot Kidder's Lois I love for the husky voice and her rushed, snarky humour.  But I feel she's a bit of a flimsy Lois.

WE DO NOT MENTION KATE BOSWORTH'S LOIS BECAUSE SHE KILLED THE CHARACTER

Anyway.  Lois is epic.  I have no reccs for her because I'm not really into any Superman fandom.  I will say I don't ship her with anyone (except maybe Lex cos yummy).  It's odd that I shouldn't because the whole Clark/Superman romance is such a big part of her character.  But I think she's so much more than that.  She's not just Superman's love interest, she's a hero of her own.  And I hope she will continue to inspire women for years to come.
