The Angel Chronicles: Damage
Loved this episode. And, though I was looking forward to it as a Buffy-screwed-up episode, it actually redeemed the events of Chosen for me. Here's why.
Dana had no chance to recover. She was stuck in that institution likely for the rest of her life, never able to have revenge or heal herself. But, when she became a Slayer, she was able to free herself. Yes, she killed. That's something she'll have to live with for the rest of her life. But I don't believe what Angel said about her being beyond help. I think that with help from other Slayers, especially Faith, she might someday recover. And she got some kind of revenge - she tortured Spike, not her captor, but the murderer of other Slayers. In this way she managed to avenge both herself and the Slayers Spike killed. Hopefully, this will have helped her. In any case, becoming a Slayer gave her the strength to fight her demons, real and imaginary, and a purpose in life. She's needed to fight, something she's good at. And she's been accepted into a huge family, something she needed.
It was the end, really, that redeemed Chosen for me. All those women coming out of the shadows, taking Dana away to help heal her... I dunno. Somehow it made what Buffy did better. (And having watched the episode I can't see why people were upset that Andrew was only accompanied by women - obviously they were Slayers, not sexual parteners. I'd envisioned him leaving with a group of glamourous girls all fawning over him. Not the case.)
The one thing that did piss me off was the fact that it was Andrew, not Dawn. I mean, obviously this was because Michelle couldn't do it, and I do love Andrew, but omgomgomgomg the Dawn/Spike potential ship!! And I soooooo want to see her after S7, all growed up and her own person. Probably because she reminds me of my sister, so I want to see her with her own power, a hero just like Buffy, but her own person. That's what was missing in S7.
Anyway. I'm supposed to be getting an early night because I travelled for 5 hours today and am meeting the lovely softly_me in London tomorrow, but I'm going to go ahead and watch You're Welcome. Because dude. How can I not?
