The Angel Chronicles: Darla and The Trilogy
SPOILERS FOR S2 OF ANGEL
Right.
First of all - sorry for not posting the icons yesterday. In Thwaite Hall tradition, the internet dramatically failed right when I needed it for essay writing (and icon posting). The polls are in and you guys want a split batch so, that is what you will get :D Hopefully I'll be posting the first part today - either this afternoon if I finish my essays or after Misfits tonight.
ANYWAY
softly_me has been demanding more comprehensive Angel comments from me, so here's a quick breakdown (for her) of my views of S2 so far. And I apologise to jesslat for disturbing her last night. Lack of journal means I have to vent and she was my replacement LJ for the night. Ah well.
- Omg Darla is awesome. I totally love the character arc for her this season. How she was evil but with a soul, then insane, then desperate to get her vamp back on, then accepting then OMG! Drusilla and Darla vamping out LA!
- I cried in The Trial. At the end. And I thought Darla being revamped would be like woo! But no because argh! *insert coherent and poignant comment here*
- I totally ship Darla and Angel more than Angel and Buffy. Cos (except in I Will Remember You in which their ship is INCREDIBLE) there's just nothing there for me. It's too meh. But Darla and Angel... wow. I totally think she fell in love with him before she was revamped. I mean, the ship is just so twisted and awesome and angsty and hot and wow. So yeah. Eat your heart out, Buffy. (Poor thing. I even ship Spike with Drusilla rather than with her. Well, mostly anyway.)
- ROOM SERVICE?!!!!! What the actual fuck, guys. I mean really. You have Darla in the 1700s talk about ROOM SERVICE????!!!!! Even if they had it then, it definitely would not have been called that. Argh. That really pissed me off.
- Lindsey and Darla is a great ship. I just love Lindsey anyway :D He's a great character. And in the episode "Darla"... Wow. Chemistry.
- Darla and Dru shopping = awesome. Plus I'm loving their friendship. I never really saw how it would work before, but that scene in the clothes shop totally persuaded me that it's awesome :D Plus all Dru's affection for her as grandmother and child... That was great. That scene in the street when she said she was just trying to help Darla.... aw. Love it.
- I REALLY WISH I'D WATCHED "FOOL FOR LOVE" AND "DARLA" ONE AFTER ANOTHER!! Because omg great episode paralleling. And that one scene that was repeated but with different camera angles and character focus was genius. Brilliant piece of television there. Very arty :D
- What was up with the narration in Redefinition? Whoever wrote that episode has been reading too many comic books. Cos that was just cheesy and annoying. And it really broke with reality.
- And how come Angel and Darla were "incapable of love"? This is something Angel says in *insert episode here*. And I was like, wait a minute, Spike was completely in love with Dru. And she with him (remember the Judge saying they "reeked of humanity"). So is it a vampires-aren't-capable-of-love thing or a you-can't-love-without-a-soul-thing? Cos that doesn't fit with Spike and Dru. Maybe it's just that Angelus and Darla were so evil they couldn't love each other? But I thought they really did love each other, at least, that was the impression I got. So - thoughts anyone?
- KARAOKE OMGOMGOMGOMG. Darla's singing was beautiful. And Cordy and Gunn and Wesley LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL :D
- I love Lorne.
- I love Gunn (yes, softly_me, you control my fandom life - it's even in tag form now).
- I love Cordy's new hair (black bob). Suits her the best of all her haircuts :D
And I think that's it! S2 is the best series so far, IMO. And as soon as I'm done iconing the Faith Arc I'm going to have to icon some of these scenes. (Once I've done my whedon20in20 and all my assignments omgwtf).
