I hate bad films, or My Plot for Skyline.

Warning: minor spoilers in this post.  I say minor because, as the film has no plot to speak of, there's very little to spoil.

So I went to see Skyline.  Now I wish I'd stayed home and watched my Angel dvds.  So terrible.  I hate when I know (not feel - know) I could have written a better film.

FIRST - no plot.  The film literally went like this: monster, run, argue, run, monster, run, argue some more, lovey scene, run, monster, explosion, monster, run, monster, surreal finish.  It managed to be both boring and gross at the same time.  Just... wow.

SECOND - there could have been a plot!  It had a great premise (a little overdone, but still good), and interesting plot points.
Premise (this was in the trailers but frustratingly not mentioned in the film) - we sent out that probe and aliens came to find Earth.  Interesting.  Should have been some government scenes talking about how they found us, what the risks were etc.  Some science guys would have been nice (science babble always adds to a film).
Could have expanded on why the aliens came.  It turned out to be a kinda Borg-meets-zombies deal (they wanted our brains to keep their race alive, but this was never explained).  So some potential alien history might have been nice.  Then there was the whole Jared-has-power-because-of-the-creepy-light thing.  Potentially a very good plot point, but they made such a hash of it.

So here's my alternative plot (keeping it short because I'm exhausted - see post "Dear Drunk Friends")...

- The ending will be the same: we can't fight the aliens cos they're too strong so we lose.

- But to make this more poignant and shocking the film follows stories from people around the world, experiencing the invasion in different ways.  This adds to the magnitude of what's going on, and also adds more plot and interest.

- Would focus more on the effect the light has on people - giving them power being the most important thing.  But if some humans are fighting back, might be interesting to have a sort of alien-controlled spy in one of the groups.

- More intelligence and mind games by aliens, possibly caused by mind control.

- Each group would obviously have their own stories, characters, and problems.

- More focus on what the governments and militaries would be doing, and maybe some of the groups would encounter this (science babble needed here).

- Though the end would be dismal, there would be a twist (needs detail here, I know, but the film only finished a couple of hours ago).

- And though most of the Earth's population would be killed, there would be a group of people who would have power from the light (like with Jared) that could fight back.

- Might be interesting to go into whether anything human remained when the brains were removed and given to the alien creatures (this could be the twist - that humanity survives, but in a different form.  But then you've got the powerful human survivors that proceed to kill the alien/humans ooooh!!).

So yeah.  I prefer my version, ofc.  And I warn everyone - don't see that film.  Go see Easy A instead.  It's v good (and I say this as an avid hater of chic flicks).

Night!
