I adore Hermes and they made him into a people eater. I will never forgive them for that. I knew of nearly all the gods (I have a thing for myths and legends!) and the only one that they could possibly get away with is Kali, because she's a world-destroyer. But they completely destroyed her character anyway, an insult to all people who follow Hinduism.
I hate that episode so much. The whole gods-eat-people thing arose in that Christmas episode (or maybe the S1 field episode). It was explained as the reason for human sacrifices. Fair enough. But the gods they used for that episode DID NOT DEMAND HUMAN SACRIFICES!! (Except maybe the Norse ones, but I actually don't remember that being a part of that religion.)
I have to stop talking about this now or I'll cry with anger. Because for most of their viewers, this is the only time they will ever encounter these gods and now they're going to get the wrong impression. It's just such a typical example of how the writers are prepared to use anything they can for their own devices, despite who they might insult. They just don't care about other cultures (or women), evidentally.
