Rant Time With Lili!
Ok, so just a quick rant. Promise I'll do my NYC post soon!!
RANT 1: BUFFY
So in seasons 1 and 2 Buffy had pretty big breasts, I admit (trust me, I'm going somewhere with this). I mean they were lovely. But due to her doing her own stunts, or just working out a lot, by season 4 she has at least and A cup, if not AA. Cool. This is the result of real hard work, and is very realistic. And she's still gorgeous. SO WHY THE HELL ARE HER BOOBS HUGE IN THE COMICS?!!! Bigger even than they were originally! (Yeah, I bought a couple of the omnibuses in NY).
I HATE this from comics. Because it's obviously just a form of porn for geeky boys - let's dress the girl superheroes/comic stars in tight latex and have them have huge boobs. Whatever. It's disgusting, but that's the way it is. But this is BUFFY. Hello! Feminist icon extrordinaire. I fail to see why they should keep drawing her like this when it's not truthful, and is just following in a chauvinistic tradition. Same with Willow btw.
I know this isn't a big deal. But as a (reasonably) small-breasted feminist, I find this insulting. It's like she can only be beautiful if her breasts are bigger than they really are. That's not what Buffy is about.
*sighs*
Of course, I only have omnibuses 1 and 5, so do feel free to correct me if it's different elsewhere. It will make me feel a little better!
RANT 2: THE EXPENDABLES
This is the latest big-bucks action film. There were posters plastered all over New York. Posters featuring about 10 MEN. That's right. Not one woman to be seen.
ARGH!!!
There should be at least 1! And that's waaay less than equal. It's just so stupid. There are so many action heroines out there. They just didn't even think about equality while making this film, it's obvious. Must be to suck boys in. The film-makers think that if there's a woman in the lineup, less men will want to see it. So not true. Guys like Buffy, and that's about a woman (btw excellent story about a security guard and my Buffy comics coming soon).
Sorry Hollywood. You fail AGAIN.
