(Mos Def was not good! He made Ford into a stoner! Ford and Zaphod are my faves. And Ford is snarky, sharp, sarcastic and a bit depressive. He's just awesome. None of the characters in the film had any depth! Apart from Arthur. I loved him. Marvin was awesome too! And Trillian was nice, although she was American and that pissed me off. The only character you could get away with casting as American is Zaphod because he's kinda described as having an American accent. Not obviously, but there's that element there.
Basically, they did what Hollywood does to most of the brilliant English books they adapt. They flattened it, took out the quirky nature of it, made it shiny and comercialised and crap.
Oh yeah, Bill Nighy aced as Slarti. I'm not gonna argue there.
Honestly, Hollywood shouldn't have touched it. But seeing as they did, they should have STUCK TO THE ORIGINAL STORY for no other reason than to HONOUR DOUGLAS ADAMS' MEMORY. Cos he wrote the first few scenes before he died (and they were the best). He also planned the rest of the film, and once he was gone they re-wrote it.
Bastards.)
Well, the solution's simple. Come live in England!
(Ah yes, Marvin, I almost forgot, how could I! Apart from Arthur, and Slarti, he was so the best part. Totally spot on, I think.
I have to say though, that I think it might have been loads better if it had been made in UK. It was made in Hollywood you say? They do have a knack for sometimes ruining things. *shrug* I'd say it's 50/50. It's bad as often as it's good. Which is alright, but it should be better.
And I would have loved to see how the script had turned out had Douglas Adams not died. :( )
My wish, right now, is that they give it another go, a British film company could get the rights, and re-do it. Start over, do teh first film again, and then continue with the rest. It doesn't have to be line by line from the book, though the could keep a lot, but the plot should - obviously - be the same. And Marvin can stay, with the same voice. Alan Rickman nailed that. Now I feel like go and make a list of my wish cast for it. And the alternatives, because I think there's a lot of great actors in UK that has potential to be in the adaption of these books.
And, last but not least, I guess we should agree to disagree on most parts, and agree that the books are lovely and awesome. ^^ One of the books is a bit, well, my least fave, but they're all still good. I'm gonna shut up on the subject now. XD)
That is, indeed, a very simple solution. And so I shall! Even if it'll take me a few years... *looks around* Darn it Doctor, why don't you ever show up with your Tardis when I need ya! *shakes fist* ^^
(Marvin was just so epic :D I've honestly never seen a better one!
You're right - I've been hoping for a series to be made of this too. The problem is though, so many (non-HHG books fans) like the film. But yes, they should, and they should keep everything the same because, honestly, why change it? They're cult books, so obviously the plot's doing something right.
I may have to do a post of my perfect cast too! :P Let's see how they compare!
I think Life, The Universe, And Everything is my fave :D The plot is more detailed than the others', and it reveals Zaphod's backstory. But the first is a tie or close second :D You?)
Lol I have literally been waiting for him since I was 12.
