Review of Gaga's new vid...

May 05, 2011 23:02

Ok, at first I was like "wtf is this", then I liked the imagery, then I was confused and now...

The way she subverts the typical "girl torn between a good and bad guy" story is pure brilliance.  Plus the video is gorgeous and I love how she resets the Jesus story in city slums.  Wow.  Well done Gaga.  I haven't been this impressed since Alejandro.   ( Read more... )

laundry day, vids, music, lady gaga, erica is my guru

Without you I wouldn't even know that Gaga has a new video, hee, seriously - I don't have a tv (by choice) and no one else I know talks about her online. Only when she makes mistakes she's all over feminist blogs, otherwise I have no idea what she's doing. xD (Last week on the radio in a taxi I heard Born This Way actually sung by Gaga for the first time - I only knew the little girl's cover before. :P) Which doesn't mean I have something against her, I actually find everything she does really pretty (my definition of pretty is probably odd xD), including this video. And at least I get most of this video, because I didn't get Alejandro at all... maybe because I saw it only twice. My favorite video is Bad Romance, btw, and this one I have watched a A LOT. :D

You obviously don't know rogueslayer452, who replied with a flashy "Kneel Before Godga" anim when I said I didn't know much about her.

Me neither! I am SO suffering without a TV. I have no idea what's in the charts any more! It's so hard to keep up with music news without TV :( And I'm not on youtube so much so...

Yeah, all of her stuff is really stylised and visually stunning so I get what you mean. Alejandro I understood because I knew her reasoning and her purpose for the video. So I love that one because it has so much thought put into it and I love the imagery and subtext.

The only thing that pisses me off is that the video, while excellent, does NOT match the story of the lyrics. The video is about friendship and respect for gay men while being frustrated that you can never be with them (totally understand this - most of my crushes turn out to be gay!). The song is about a woman overcoming her repressive boyfriend. So... yeah.

I personally love not having a tv. :D I never watched it anyway, and I decided that I don't need background noise, which I didn't even listen to that much anyway, because they were days and even weeks when I didn't feel like switching the tv on at all. When I was moving out my father would tell me to get a tv at least ten times, because he spends whole days in front of it, but yeah, I'm definitely not him. :P ( ... )

ITA about the editting. Tut tut Gaga.

I wasn't a fan of some of her outfits in this one. A lot of them seemed really clashy and tacky to me. But some of them were amazing.

Hot guys are always a benefit of Gaga vids :D

unfair female stonings

Understatement of the Insert Unit of Time Here.

I really don't like how we can go without hearing about such very real things here in America and it just being a statistic.

Well yeah but I didn't want to rant about stonings in this post. I just liked how Gaga put it in at the end. It was a nice comment about both Biblical times and how nothing has changed today, even if the stoning is a metaphor for persecuting certain types of women.

But yeah. Stonings suck. I honestly can't even talk about subjects like this.

I'm not really a Gaga fan... I think I've been overexposed to her or something. But on a much shallower note...

HELLO THERE NORMAN REEDUS! ♥♥♥♥
