I did a massive rant post about it. I was so offended. I love pagan mythology and they just attacked it. Hermes eats people? WTF! It was that, along with the treatment of female characters, that completely turned me of the show.
Yep. I mean, fair enough, their own interpretation of ancient religions. Personally, it pisses me off no end, but y'know, whatever. But using Hinduism like that?! I was appalled.
I'm a secular humanist, but I adore British paganism and witchcraft. It's part of my heritage and a part of who I am. Luckily there were no British gods there (I would have stormed the studios if there were), but I was still pissed off.
Its cool to use your own interpretation but some of the religions aren't so ancient and dead. Its not just me and a broomstick by myself, Paganism from Norse to Native American theology/mythology, is growing and their worshipers don't take kindly to the idea that the christian god is superior. the writers really hit the reader over the head with how lame the other gods were. Especially over Kali, who is fucking boss, in reality/mythology
For me, since I had been marathoning the show all in one go , that episode really took the blush off the rose.
Oh trust me I know. Where I live there's a massive thriving pagan community and, thanks to me being in a play about pagan gods (I was Morrighan) I'm a teeny tiny part of it :) So I know. I meant like Norse and Greek mythology. I dunno. I was trying to be moderate. I hate them for what they did, pure and simple.
Its not like a story like that can't be played out but I just don't think Supernatural's writers did a very good job especially in light of the fact that they can't seem to keep a character of color or a woman alive for more than a season or two.
