Been watching Dragon Ball these days and man... I can't even believe how much in denial/bitter some people are when it comes to the relationship between Goku and Chi-Chi. They call Chi-Chi a "nagging-b*tch", say that there was no love between Goku and Chi-Chi, and even rejoice at the scene where she got her neck snapped by the Androids while trying to protect Goku (in Goku's nightmare before the battle), saying she deserved it.
First off, let's say that being nagging is not really Chi-Chi's fault. Toriyama most probably made her that way because being over-protective and overbearing is like the archtypical shonen mother. And let's not even go into explaining how difficult it must have been to be the wife of Goku and mother to Gohan and Goten, all of whom constantly put themselves in danger's way, granted it was to save the Earth and all. In the end though, Chi-Chi was always so caring and loving, and when she saw the need she eventually came to terms with it, even trained Goten herself after Goku died and all.
And c'mon people, face the truth. Goku indeed thought a bride was some kind of food, so his promise to make Chi-Chi his bride when they were kids was void. But Chi-Chi, though sad, was ready to let go. It was Goku who said "My mind doesn't know what sometimes... But luckily my heart does," and he proposed to her right on the spot, asking her to marry him. Goku wanted to marry Chi-Chi people, face it!
And really, she was always his home, the person whom he always looked forward to coming back to at the end of the day. I was watching "Memories of Gohan" earlier, and saw nothing but crazy sweet love between these two. The way Goku looked at Chi-Chi, the way Chi-Chi admitted Goku was "too much" because she could never stay mad at him, the way Chi-Chi made Goku blush... all scream "LOVE" so loudly. Right before the Cell Games, Goku spent 6 days at home relaxing, which appeared strange even to Krillin. When Krillin inquired why Goku could let himself and Gohan have fun and if he was even sure they would defeat Cell, Goku said he was not sure at all they would, but that he just wanted Chi-Chi and Gohan to relax, that "being together is everything. It's all that matters to me now." Yes, straight from the mouth of the hero himself.
So some people, wake up please!
